Along with the rise of smart machines and systems, new technologies, media ecology and gllobally-connected world, a future workforce is in the need of acquiring new skills that will satisfy potential employers. Here are ten skills for the year 2020.
The first crucial skill is sense-making which is further defined by ability to determine the deeper meaning or significance of what is being expressed. In the era of robots , this ability gives people a huge advantage over the artificial intelligence. The next power that makes us, humans, better workes than any smart machine is social intelligence what means that a person is able to adapt easily to new situations and build proper relationships in the group. In terms of working in teams, solving problems and finding solutions is crucial so if we are equipped with novel and adaptive thinking we can be a real treasure for every company. Moreover, as a large number of companies co-operate with clients from different countries from all over the world, cross-cultural competency will find its application. It is worth to employ a person who can operate in different cultural settings. In the next few years, this ability will become an important sill for workers, not just those who have to operate in diverse geographical environments. Another fundamental skill is called computational thinking that is ability to make sense of vast amount of data so being familiar with Microsoft Office suite will be no longer a sufficient source of knowledge of an applicant. Statistical analisis and quantitive reasoning skills should be fuond in each worth-considering resume. The next generation of workforce will also need to be fluent in dealing with new media forms in order to atrract the audience during an immmersive and visually stimulating presentation. This is what is named new-media literacy. In other words, a set of sophisticated skills that enable workers to use up-to-date tools such as for example video. Another skill relates to solving global problems such as global warming, or overpopulation. Problems of this range need to be solved with usage of many fields of education and with the lowest amount of workforce. It means, people who are able to understand concepts across multiple disciplines are wanted. This is transdisciplinarity. For instance, biologist who have understading in mathematics, mathematicians who undersdtand biology. Due to the massive influx of data workers in 2020 must be able to filter information for importance, and to understand how to maximie cognitive functioning using variety of tools and techniques such as ranking, tagging , fitering or adding other metadata. At last but not at least, virtual collaboration is the ability to work productively, drive engagement, and demonstrate presence as a member of a virtual team. A leader of a virtual team needs to develop strategies for engaging and dispersed group.
